Day 1 (June 8):
Upon arrival of the PHILEA Group at the Mactan Airport we were welcomed by the Aboitiz Group headed by Ms. Cyel Auza and Mr.Clifford Academia, plus their respective team members.
1st Stop: Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ 1)
It was a short drive from the Airport to MEZ 1 (approximately less than 10 minutes drive) where the PEZA Administration Office is located. There, we were welcomed by the PEZA Team headed by Atty. Abdul-Khan G. Alug, he is the Ecozone Administration Head for Visayas-Mindanao Cluster. MEZ 1 is 150-hectare government-owned and was established last January 15, 1979, with 201 locator enterprises and 46,251 direct employment. The ownership in MEZ 1 is only for leasing since it is government owned.
2nd Stop: ON Semiconductor Philippines (ONSEMI) Facility inside MEZ 1
Onsemi is a designer, manufacturer, and supplier of semiconductor products and solutions, and they were gracious enough to welcome the team inside their facility to discuss their business and their experience locating inside a PEZA zone.
3rd Stop: Lunch at The Outlets inside MEZ 2
Same to Aboitiz’s industrial parks in the Calabarzon area, MEZ also has a commercial area housing different outlet stores and restaurants. This is also our vision for SET’s Commercial Area.
4th Stop: We also visited Cebu Light Industrial Park (CLIP) and its two locators:
Nito’s International Ventures, Inc. – importer, distributor, and assembles motorcycles and e-vehicles.
Dynamic Motion-control Technology (Duck-Il Korea Inc) – which manufactures auto switch parts, electronic controller parts, and manufactures auto switch parts, auto electronic controller parts, and auto plastic parts.
Last Stop: Dinner at Waterfront
Day 2 (June 9):
1st Stop: West Cebu Industrial Park (WCIP) Admin. Office
Together with Philea and the Aboitiz Team, we visited West Estate Cebu (WCE) in Balamban, Cebu City. WCE is a 540-hectare development by Aboitiz InfraCapital, hosting 11 locators and having 14,000 skilled workers. WCE is operated and developed by Cebu Industrial Park Developers, Inc. and is a joint venture project of Aboitiz with one of their locators, Tsuneishi Holdings of Japan. Tsuneishi Heavy Industries Cebu Inc. is a large shipbuilding facility with 140-hectare property in WCE and 10,000 workers.
2nd Stop: Ship Launching at Tsuneshi Heavy Industries (CEBU) Inc.
After the short brief orientation with WCE’s team, we went to Tsuenishi’s port to witness their actual ship launching – slipway #2 (Trigger Stopper).We also went around the compound and saw the different stages of assembling the ship.
3rd Stop: Lunch at Tsuneshi Hotel
This is a hotel exclusively for Tsuneshi’s guests and guests of Aboitiz as well.
4th Stop: Tour of the West Cebu Industrial Park
5th stop: Travel back to the city (eventually travelling back to the airport).
